Taiwan Confirms 5 New Imported COVID-19 Cases, Bringing Total to 467

Source: All Taipei times

July 29, 2020

Yesterday, the Central Epidemic Command Center made public that Taiwan confirmed five new imported COVID-19 cases, four of which had entered Taiwan from the Philippines and the other from Hong Kong, bringing the total number of Taiwan’s confirmed cases to 467, with 376 imported, 55 locally transmitted, and 36 from a flotilla on a training and goodwill mission to Palau.

In addition, a foreign contract worker, of Thai nationality, who worked in Taoyuan, tested positive for COVID-19 on July 27 after returning to Thailand on July 21. The Command Center stated that this could not be ruled out as a domestic case.

With the increasing number of imported COVID-19 cases, coupled with the potential risks of community transmissions behind the Thai worker, the medical circles raised concerns about whether Taiwan turned a blind eye to the “looming pandemic tsunami of COVID-19.”
