The COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a heavy blow to various fields, but the prospects of recruiting Mainland and foreign students at colleges in Taiwan are conversely looking better. The number of students from Indonesia and Vietnam applying for admission to colleges in Taiwan has climbed slightly from a year earlier, applications for admission from Hong Kong students have also soared by 50% compared to last year.

However, with the one-month countdown to the new academic year of colleges, the government has yet to lift the entry ban on new students, both undergraduate and graduate, from the Mainland or any foreign countries. Thus, many colleges are not sure how many Mainland or foreign students would matriculate in the new academic year starting in September.
