According to press reports, two deputy Foreign Ministers are going to be replaced. Informed sources say Deputy Foreign Minister Shen Lyu-Shun (沈呂巡) will be assigned as the ROC's top representative in the United Kingdom after National Day, October 10th. Shen Lyu-shun's current position as Deputy Minister will be filled by Vanessa Shih(史亞平), currently ROC representative to Singapore. Thomas Hou(侯平福), a Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, will take over as Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, according to the same sources.
Shen Lyu-Shun was President Ma Ying-jeou's classmate in Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School and had previously been ROC representative to the European Union. Shen was generally regarded as a likely candidate for representative to the US, so it was surprising that he would be dispatched to the United Kingdom. Katharine Chang (張小月), ROC representative to the UK, will reportedly be transferred to Australia. Incumbent representative Gary Lin (林松煥) would be transferred back to Taiwan. Thomas Hou's position will reportedly be filled with a candidate fluent in Spanish, but no decision has yet been finalized.
