The KMT legislative caucus yesterday held straw polls on candidates interested in becoming the new Vice Speaker of the Legislative Yuan. After two rounds of straw polls, Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱), an eight-term veteran legislator, emerged the winner. Therefore, Wang Jin-pyng (王金平), the incumbent speaker, and Hung Hsiu-chu would be nominated by the KMT to run in the upcoming election for speaker and vice speaker of the Legislative Yuan, respectively. If both of them are elected, Wang will become the longest-serving Speaker and Hung will become the first female Vice Speaker, setting two records in ROC history.
