In the aggravated assault case of a local taxi driver involving entertainer Makiyo and her Japanese friend Taketeru Tomoyori, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office yesterday identified Makiyo and Tomoyori as having kicked the prone taxi driver, surnamed Lin, and released them on bail of an additional NT$50,000. The other two female friends of Makiyo were listed as defendants for committing perjury.
According to media reports, Tomoyori admitted to the case prosecutor during questioning yesterday that he had kicked the victim’s head. Makiyo maintained her previous testimony, insisting that she had been intoxicated at the time, so she could not remember if she had struck the taxi driver.
After being treated over the past week in the intensive care unit of Taipei Medical University Hospital, the blood clots in the beaten taxi driver’s head gradually dissolved. He was transferred to the general ward, but was still in a weakened condition. He said that when he was being beaten and lying on the street, one female passenger came over to kick him at least once, stressing that he could still vividly remember the scene even now.
The taxi driver emotionally stated that he had not “touched” Makiyo’s chest, and that Makiyo had instigated the beating. He explained that Maikyo had spoken to Tomoyori in Japanese after getting out of the taxicab, and the Japanese suspect then came over to drag him out of the cab and start beating and kicking him.
Aggravated assault is a public offense punishable by imprisonment between five and twelve years. Even if Makiyo and Tomoyori reached a settlement with the victim in the future, it would only serve as reference for the prosecutor in his indictment concerning the severity of penalty to be sought, and the charge could not be withdrawn.
