Polls are already being taken on the prospects of possible candidates in the 2016 Presidential Election. According to the latest public opinion poll conducted by TVBS, if people were to vote for the next President tomorrow, 42% of the polled voters would support Eric Chu (朱立倫), Mayor of New Taipei City, while another 42% would support Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), a former DPP chairwoman, and its standard bearer in the 2012 Presidential Election.

Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強), a former spokesman of the Presidential Office and one of President Ma Ying jeou's former top lieutenants on the firing line, inaugurated and hosted a new TVBS talk show last night. The debut topic of the show was the results of the latest public opinion poll on the prospects of possible candidates in the 2016 Presidential Election.

The TVBS public opinion poll surveyed respondents on four KMT possible candidates, i.e., Vice President Wu Den-Yih (吳敦義), Premier Jiang Yi-huah (江宜樺), Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌), and Eric Chu, and three possible DPP candidates, i.e., DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌), former DPP chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen, and Tainan City Mayor William Lai (賴清德).

The poll indicated that Eric Chu was the only possible KMT candidate who could defeat the possible DPP candidates. Moreover, only Tsai Ing-wen was neck and neck with Eric Chu in the survey.

Among swing voters, Eric Chu was in the lead when competing against Su Tseng-chang, but only slightly ahead of Tsai Ing-wen and William Lai.

The poll was conducted in the evenings of December 23rd to December 25th with 1049 people successfully surveyed. The margin of error associated with this sample is plus or minus 3% with a 95 % confidence interval.
