Poll: DPP’s Lai Has Overwhelming Lead in Up-coming Tainan Mayoral Race

According to the latest survey conducted by the Taipei-based WantWant China Times Polling Center on candidates’ support ratings in the November Tainan mayoral election, incumbent Tainan Mayor William Lai Ching-te (賴清德), of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) affiliation, is leading with a 67.7% support rating, followed by his Kuomintang (KMT) opponent Huang Hsiu-shuang (黃秀霜), president of National University of Tainan, with 7.9%. In terms of their election prospects in the eyes of the public, Lai is leading with 68.8% while Huang has only 1.2%.
In addition, the poll also revealed that 71.6% of the respondents confirmed that they would or would likely vote in the local elections on November 29, 9.1% would not vote, and 19.3% were undecided.
The latest poll was conducted from July 11 to 13, 2014, with 864 people successfully surveyed via telephone. While the results of the poll are weighted, the margin of error associated with this sample is plus or minus 3.3% with a 95 % confidence interval.
