The KMT held its national party congress in Chiayi (嘉義) City on September 14. KMT Chairman Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng (王金平), and two KMT honorary chairmen, Lien Chan (連戰) and Wu Po-hsiung (吳伯雄), all attended the party congress. The “Big Four” have not been on the same stage in a setting of national party congress since 2010. This time they gathered together to promote party solidarity and gather momentum before the local elections scheduled for November 29.
In his speech, Chairman Ma stated that over the last year the domestic economy had grown to new highs and the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) improved. Ma also stressed that “reconciliation between the two sides of the Strait creates ‘more good than harm.’” The KMT has stabilized cross-Strait relations via many policies and reached previously unachievable goals, Ma added.
In addition, Ma noted that the KMT was established 120 years ago and had done its utmost to revive Chinese nation, safeguard Taiwan, and develop Taiwan. As for the local elections scheduled for November 29, Chairman Ma expressed his hope that everyone would step forward and proclaim that “I support the KMT. The KMT has done everything possible for Taiwan. It has done so many things beneficial to Taiwan. ” Ma also appealed to KMT members to campaign at the grassroots level with confidence and determination so as to win this November’s local elections.
