The Chinese Taipei team collected two more gold medals, in tennis and bowling, at the 17th Asian Games (2014) in Incheon, Korea yesterday.
Although Taiwan once shone brightly in international bowling competitions, such as the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games, it has been 16 years since the Chinese Taipei team has returned home with a medal in bowling. Yesterday, Chou Chia-chen (周佳溱) won a gold medal in bowling for Chinese Taipei in the women’s singles competition.
Chou claimed the gold medal with a score of 1,291 pinfalls over 6 games. In the third game, Chou scored 268 pinfalls, the highest among all the competitors on the same day.
The final women’s tennis team match pitted Mainland China against Chinese Taipei. Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and Chan Yung-jan (詹詠然) defeated Mainland’s Zheng Jie (鄭潔) and Zhang Shuai (張帥) 6-2, 7-5, bringing home the gold medal. This is the 7th time that Chinese Taipei has won tennis gold medals in the Asian Games and the 3rd time for the women’s team.
In additional, Kao Yu-chuan (高玉娟) bagged a silver medal in the women’s 60kg category of the Sanda (散打, Chinese kickboxing) martial arts event. Huang Shih-hsu (黃釋緒) received a bronze medal in the women’s 69kg category in weightlifting. To date, Chinese Taipei has collected 4 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze medals in total.
