Hung Attends Taichung Event to Drum Up Support

The KMT will hold its Presidential primary opinion polls today and tomorrow to determine whether or not to nominate Deputy Legislative Speaker Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱) as its official Presidential candidate. At this critical juncture, an association of local factions in the greater Taichung area took the initiative yesterday to hold an event to drum up support for Hung. During the event, Hung remarked in Taiwanese dialect that she was born in Taichung, adding that she proved that she could cross the Chuo-shui Creek (濁水溪) despite claims by her opponents to the contrary. Chuo-shui Creek is the longest river in Taiwan, and the unofficial boundary between the geographical north and south and between traditional KMT and DPP strongholds.

Lin Min-lin (林敏霖), an organizer of the event and a former Council Speaker in Taichung County, stated yesterday that local grassroots supporters proposed holding the event as they felt that the KMT should follow its primary rules in a fair and just manner in this hour.

Many local faction leaders in the greater Taichung area, i.e., the "Red" (紅派) and "Black" factions (黑派), attended the activity. They included Red faction heavyweights Lin Min-lin (林敏霖), former National Assemblyman Lin Chin-nung (林欽濃), former Taiwan Provincial Assemblyman Tong Fu-lai (童福來), legislator Chiang Chi-chen (江啟臣). Black faction heavyweights also attended the event, including former Taicung County Executive Huang Chung-sheng (黃仲生), former legislator Chen Chieh-ju (陳傑儒), and legislator Yen Kuan-heng (顏寬恒). Moreover, legislators Yang Chiung-ying (楊瓊瓔) and Tsai Chin-lung (蔡錦隆) also joined the event.
