Death Toll Climbs to 9 in Water Park Explosion, 162 Still in Critical Condition

A serious dust explosion rocked the Formosa Fun Coast Water Park (八仙樂園) in New Taipei City on the evening of June 27. Lu Guan-ting (呂冠廷), aged 19, succumbed to his wounds at the Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (林口長庚) in New Taipei City on July 23^rd , becoming the nineth victim to perish in the aftermath of the Water Park explosion. Lu suffered burns to 65 percent of his body. After he was pronounced dead due to sepsis and multiple organ failure, Lu's family members agreed to donate his cornea.

 According to the Health and Welfare Ministry, of the 495 people injured in the inferno, nine have died while 343 remain hospitalized. Among them, 213 are still being treated in intensive care units, with 162 in critical condition.
