Eric Chu to Serve as Hung’s Campaign Chairman

KMT Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) will serve as chairman of the KMT campaign office for the 2016 Presidential and legislative elections and KMT Secretary-General Lee Shih-chuan (李四川) as the office’s secretary-general.

Yesterday evening, Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱) , Deputy Speaker of Legislative Yuan and KMT Presidential candidate, said that she had requested Chu to assist her and Chu promised to join hands in her campaign. Therefore, according to Hung, her campaign office would not look for another campaign chairman; however, a campaign manager would play the role of a bridge between the KMT and Hung’s aides. Yiin Chii-ming (尹啟銘), a former Economics Minister and president of the National Policy Foundation, the KMT think tank, has been appointed Hung’s campaign manager.

The latest opinion polls showed that Hung’s support ratings were lagging behind DPP Presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文). Hung explained that Tsai’s support ratings were higher at the present moment because Tsai’s campaign had started earlier. That didn’t mean it would always remain so. However, Hung said she felt confident that as long as she worked harder, she could reverse Tsai’s lead.
