Hung: No Consideration of a New Pan-Blue Presidential Candidate through Opinion Polls

James Soong (宋楚瑜), Chairman of the People First Party, announced that he would run in the 2016 Presidential Election on August 6th. According to the latest UDN Poll released on August 7th, following Soong’s announcement, the support ratings for Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), the DPP’s Presidential candidate, and Hung Hsiu-Chu (洪秀柱), the KMT’s Presidential candidate, both declined.

It was rumored that Eric Chu (朱立倫), as KMT Chairman, might commission a “pan-Blue opinion poll” to compare the support ratings of Hung and Soong, so as to dissuade the weaker one from running in the 2016 Presidential Election. When asked whether the KMT would commission such an opinion poll, Hung replied that this was definitely impossible. She said that the KMT National Party Congress had confirmed her as the KMT’s official Presidential candidate; “the ‘pan-Blue opinion poll’ is pure imagination of the outside world.”
