Hung to Handover Chairpersonship to Wu in July, One Month Earlier

Chairman-elect Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) called on incumbent KMT chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱) yesterday, and the two had a closed-door meeting for thirty minutes. On matters pertaining to the transition of the chairpersonship, they reached a consensus to advance the handover to an earlier date. The 20th National Congress of Kuomintang, which was originally set for 20th August would be moved forward to July, and Hung would thus handover the chairpersonship to Wu at that time.

Wu suggested to Hung during their meeting that a ‘3-person transition team’ be set up on both sides for the purpose of facilitating the transition, and the latter agreed. The handover would thus begin officially after the Wu-Hung meeting.

During the meeting, they agreed that with regard to matters of nominating candidates for members of the Central Committee, the election, and election procedures, both sides could work together and reach a consensus.
