 National Military Museum Desinicizes but Glorifies Age of Discovery

The Ma Ying-jeou administration demanded that the Ministry of National Defense (MND) expand the “Republic of China Armed Forces Museum” into a “National Military Museum” (NMM). The MND thus set up an ad hoc group. However, relevant blueprints on the NMM were revealed recently. After the DPP took power in 2016, speculations abound that desinicization would be found in the scope of NMM’s introduction. The museum would barely introduce Chinese military history before the founding of the ROC Armed Forces. Instead, it would describe in detail Taiwan in the Age of Discovery.

[Editor’s Note: For the Republic of China, it is the successor state to the Manchu Dynasty China, which, in turn, was the successor state to the Ming Dynasty China.
