According to the results of the latest opinion polls conducted by the Want Want China Times Media Group (旺旺中時), in the duel between the KMT and DPP, no matter whether the KMT nominates Eric Chu (朱立倫) or Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) as the standard bearer in the 2020 presidential race, the KMT candidate receives a 43% support rating, far higher than the DPP’s presidential candidate.

If the KMT should nominate Han as its candidate, Han would receive 50.4% while Tsai would only obtain 23.1%. Should the DPP nominate Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Han would defeat Lai by 21 percentage points. Eric Chu would, at least, take an 18 percentage-point lead over Tsai or Lai.

With Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) running against Tsai and a KMT candidate in a three-way race, his support rating only hovers around 22%-25%, ranking second. Ko would lose to Han by at most 9 percentage points, while he would lose to Eric Chu by at least 5 percentage points. In other words, should Han enter the 2020 presidential election, Ko’s presidential dream would be shuttered, while Tsai’s hopes for re-election would be dashed.
