Supreme Principle: Strongest Batters, Han and Guo, May Be Competitors and Not Neutralize Each Other
United Daily News Editorial (Taipei, Taiwan)

Translation of an Excerpt
Having Han Kuo-yu and Terry Guo as two strong batters, although it makes the KMT’s electoral prospects in next year’s presidential election look better, in reality it may have misgivings. As things stand now, no matter which approach the KMT adopts, the eventual winner will probably be either Han or Guo. Many people have pinned their hopes on Han Kuo-yu and Terry Guo, whose capacity to act and who are stronger than traditional Blue camp politicians.
Terry Guo came from a family of a grassroots police officer, starting from building an empire from scratch for 40 years, becoming the world's largest electronics OEM manufacturer; the precision of his vision and the efficiency of his execution are beyond question. According to opinion polls, his support among the younger generation is higher than Han’s; it is presumed that principally people believe that he has the capacity to lead Taiwan out of the bottleneck of development.
From turning over Kaohsiung to developing tourism, to promoting sales abroad, Han Kuo-yu has greatly elevated the visibility and sense of honor for Greater Kaohsiung; he could be called a shining star in politics. However, when it comes to the big picture of the country, politics, economics, and rule of law, he will inevitably need the support of a stronger and more robust team; it is impossible for him to rely on himself alone. Viewed from this angle, whether in the presidential electoral campaign or ruling the country, he needs the backing of comrades within the party.
After the disastrous defeat in 2016, the KMT has been on its last legs, but now surprisingly it could regain power; this kind of opportunity must be cherished. Today, two strong batters are on the team, ready to show their strong suits; the KMT must prod the camaraderie between the two, maintaining the supreme principle of "competing but not battling each other." Even if we could not make one plus one greater than two, at a minimum, it should equal two. In case both act on impulse, neutralizing their advantages and losing the election, then we could only wait for the DPP to pursue persecution exterminator-style.
