What Speed, from the Last Mile in Power to the First Mile in Divisions!

 Translation of an Excerpt

A presidential primary could be relegated to such a box office flop! Look at how the DPP is staging the show and we may know its infinite possibilities. These days, the high-handed performance of the "Internet Celebrity" forced the deliberate maneuverings of the DPP Party Central, eliciting mutual lambasting at its Central Standing Committee meeting, with bare-all shoutings by men and women from all circles. These scenes have made the dialectics between the Green camp’s "consolidating power" and "safeguarding the system" become pale and powerless. While the DPP repeats all the time "progressive values," it now looks like only jealousy in fighting for power has been left.

On the 20th of May, President Tsai Ing-wen will celebrate her third anniversary in office; at her inauguration three years ago, she declared pledges of "modesty, modesty, and more modesty" and "solving problems" now both have vanished. To be precise, Tsai Ing-wen’s crisis lies not in Lai Ching-te’s challenge, but in the incompetence of the Tsai government; she has lost the trust of the majority of the people. Lai Ching-te’s ambush was erected on this foundation, believing that if “he could replace her,” then he could keep certain advantages for the DPP in 2020. Nevertheless, this has also thoroughly exposed Tsai Ing-wen’s weakness. Simply put, Tsai Ing-wen and Lai Ching-te should be the number one and number two figures accountable for the DPP’s defeat in last yearend’s elections, but the number two figure was not content leaving his post, thus returning to launch a challenge against the number one. However, at this time, the party could not provide them a stage for a fair competition; those holding power believed that they could use the approach of "palace politics" to remove problems, while in the end, it made the situation deteriorate even more.

Three years ago Tsai Ing-wen won the election, but in the last three years her leadership style and governance approach, nevertheless, led people to despair, her arrogance and recalcitrance even exceeded people's imagination. Now, in order to save her power and position, she even thought nothing of twisting the party's primary system, making the DPP move toward the first mile of divisions. From that mile to this mile, how rapid have the twists and turns and changes been; it was startling to see the aging and changes of the facial look, while the spirit of soul-searching, on the other hand, was too thin to be observed or felt.
