Three Pieces of Advice for Han Kuo-yu
China Times Editorial (Taipei, Taiwan)

Translation of an Excerpt
In the list of all hopefuls in the 2020 presidential election, Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu has maintained a lead in public opinion support ratings. In the two latest Green camp surveys, in various combinations of battle or rivalries, such as a "Blue-Green-White three-way race", or a Blue-Green duel, Han Kuo-yu has demonstrated an obvious leading posture. However, it has to be stated with candor that due to certain news events concerning interpellation sessions over Kaohsiung City administration, the Green camp launched pointed attacks, and some elites in the Blue camp have misgivings about Han Kuo-yu. Consequently, Han Kuo-yu’s aura in the Kaohsiung-Pingtung area showed a slide, which merits attention.
Under the dual pressure of expectations by the vox populi that he run for president and pushing for Kaohsiung City administration, Han Kuo-yu is facing an unprecedented challenge of burning a candle at both ends. If he is willing to let Taiwan win a much better future, he has an unshakable duty to become stronger.
First, he should reset his emotional management, showing again his much applauded high EQ political style. Secondly, he must strengthen his obviously inadequate team; he should not only clear-cutly segregate the campaign team and the city administration team, but also painstakingly recruit and enrich a high-level brain trust so that he can have more steady, wholesome, and solid concepts and policies for planning and governance in his administration on the national level in the future. The Pilot Free Economic Zone which Han Kuo-yu advocated has become a principal Blue-Green confrontational issue in the 2020 presidential election; Han Kuo-yu must shoulder the responsibility of leading the narrative.
Third, in the narrative of concepts and policies, the deployment and strength of the Eric Chu team are absolutely treasured resources that merit Han Kuo-yu’s attentive efforts to recruit and integrate. Only by so doing can allow willing, devoted, and hardworking Han Kuo-yu to achieve seamless linkage with “Taiwan must win in 2020.”
