In this period, netizens fan winds and light fires, pour fuel and add vinegar, claiming that the youngster and his mother had no ROC nationality, etc. This narrative about an "exposé of identities" immediately turned into an uproar in the netizens’ world; even former President Ma Ying-jeou, who eased the requirements for Mainland residents to qualify for coverage in the National Health Insurance program, was dragged out for a lashing. Subsequently, clamoring the demand that laws be revised to fully stop Mainland residents from enjoying National Health Insurance program benefits, sprang from all quarters.

Fortunately, the Mainland Affairs Council issued a statement, certifying that the youngster’s biological father was indeed Taiwanese, and that Xiaoyu, the youngster, veritably was an authentic "son of Taiwan", having ROC nationality and national ID card, while his mother also lawfully possesses ROC nationality. However, red-eyed, killing netizens still didn’t stop; they immediately moved to another battlefield, criticizing the words and deeds Xiaoyu’s mother had not even an iota of “Taiwan values”, thus her son Xiaoyu was not fit to enjoy National Health Insurance benefits.

Politics that has lost humanity cannot possibly fully implement democracy. The youngster who has been ill is a son of Taiwan; forcibly asking him to assume chain responsibility for his mother's words and deeds is absolutely unreasonable. This kind of mentality resembles the resurrection of the backward thinking in autocratic countries that mete out capital punishment to three generations, extending to the wife and children of the culprit. Taiwan, which claims to be democratic and progressive, surprisingly could use the pretext of "epidemic prevention" to sneak in such narrow-minded rhetoric of hate and discrimination, spreading it to all places through the network; isn’t this bringing decadence upon oneself?
