Fake Classified Documents Hook the True Face of the Presidential Palace
China Times Editorial (Taipei, Taiwan)

Translation of an Excerpt
A couple of days ago, a scandal dubbed "hackergate" broke out in the Presidential Palace, which has pointed out that the whole thing was a fake. However, the content of the story approximates to a high degree the political reality, quite intriguing. These documents did not expose so-called classified information related to national security, but exposed, using the summary records of Palace meetings, the secrets of power struggles between President Tsai and high-echelon circles.
Now that Lin Hsi-yao has taken over as DPP Secretary General, he should be able to extend the mode of operations in the past, continuing to employ the various resources of the party and government, the Parliament, the media and the Internet, to engage in a sophisticated division of work, mounting an offensive with precision and accuracy, so as to always bring the entire situation and the winds of Taiwan toward the direction favorable to the DPP. President Tsai, who is apt at engaging in cyber warfare, is now being fired back at by hackers through the Internet; it is imaginable that she must have been quite surprised. However, this will not block the steps of the Tsai government’s political operations, nor would it lead the powers-that-be to make amends as a result. Only when the majority of the people are able to clearly distinguish manipulations and reality, forsaking such tricks as using power for personal gains or infringing on people’s freedom, can democracy in Taiwan secure true protection. It is not important whether the confidential documents were authentic or fake, the important thing is we have to be able to detect the true face of politicians in a Potemkin scenario.
