On June 6, at 8:00 p.m., Hsu Kun-yuan (許崑源), speaker of the Kaohsiung City Council, of KMT affiliation, died after falling from his residence on the 17th floor of a condo building. According to informed sources, the accident happened not long after Hsu felt downtrodden about the passage of recalling Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) earlier on the same day, telling to his wife, “What is the meaning of being alive if there is no right or wrong in society?”

According to related evidence, the police and prosecutors preliminarily determined that Hsu had committed suicide by jumping from the 17th floor.

After receiving the sad news about Hsu on June 6, Han immediately rushed to the funeral parlor to pay his last respects to Hsu. KMT high echelons were shocked by Hsu’s death. Yesterday, Wu Den-yih (吳敦義), a former ROC Vice President, Hao Lung-pin (郝龍斌), a former KMT deputy Chairman, Johnny Chiang (江啟臣), the incumbent KMT Chairman, and other KMT executives went to Kaohsiung to pay their last respects to Hsu as well.

With regard to Hsu’s falling to his death, Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑), a Taipei City councilmember, of DPP affiliation, posted on his Facebook page a comment, saying “This is quite scary. Did he (Hsu) get himself in trouble in a high-stake gamble?” Wang Hao-yu (王浩宇), a Taoyuan City councilmember, also of DPP affiliation, forwarded, on his Facebook page, a news story titled “Supporting Han: Hsu Jumps from 17th Floor to Death.” Although both of them apologized and deleted their posts, not only was the anger of netizens still raging, but also the entire KMT, from top to bottom, expressed resentment.
