Citizen Judges Bill Railroaded / DPP’s Abandonment of Jury System Pledge Denounced

With the end of the LY’s extraordinary session today, the Citizen Judges Bill featuring the Schöffen System was railroaded in the third reading. By 10 p.m. last night, 73 out of all 113 articles in the Bill had been voted on, article by article.

Yesterday, the KMT blasted the DPP, indicating that the DPP’s party platform supported the jury system, yet now it became the only party criticizing the jury system among the four legislative caucuses.

Judicial reform civic groups that used to be DPP supporters also condemned the party for reneging on its party platform and good faith. The Taiwan Jury Association stated that last year the DPP still supported the jury system, adding that politicians should not go back on their word.
