KMT Nominates Ma as Standard Bearer

The KMT Standing Committee this afternoon nominated Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the party and former Mayor of Taipei, as its official candidate for next March’s Presidential election. The nomination has yet to be ratified by the party congress on June 24, but many expect it to be just a formality.

Ma appeared at the KMT headquarters later and delivered a statement entitled “Taiwan Must Move Forward”, in which he emphasized that Taiwan should strengthen itself and unite with the Asia Pacific region with a global outlook. In conclusion, he said, “Our frustrations end here; our hopes start now.”
