KMT Vice Presidential Candidate Vincent Siew Meets PMs of Malaysia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Ma Ying-jeou Office

August 8, 2007

KMT Vice Presidential candidate Vincent Siew met Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the Langkawi International Dialogue in Malaysia this week. He also met with captains of industry, Taiwanese businessmen and officials in charge of industrial and economic departments from around the region. Apart from general conversations among old friends, Siew shared his view of Taiwan’s role in the Asian regional economy.

On August 7, Siew met Taiwanese businessmen in Singapore, where he said it was important to let the people of Southeast Asia understand Taiwan’s contribution to the region and imperative to promote Taiwan’s economic and trade relations with the region, including signing free trade agreements.

When talking to the local media, Siew said that Taiwan’s core values were honesty, working hard, and tolerance, and Taiwan’s economic power should be re-built on these core values. Siew went on to say that Taiwan has performed well in the region, and Taiwanese businessmen were everywhere in Asia, including Southeast Asia, Mainland China, Japan and Korea. Siew hoped, through maintaining the close relationships with these countries, advancements and breakthroughs could be achieved in substantive relations.

Taiwanese businessmen will establish the Ma-Siew Friends Club for the Southeast Asia region on August 8. Siew said to the local Malaysian media that Taiwan hoped to actively participate in regional cooperation, and help bring peaceful and stable economic development to the global village.
