Ma Ying-jeou Acquitted by District Court
Taipei District Court, in a ruling handed down on August 14, at 10:00 am, acquitted
Ma Ying-jeou, KMT presidential candidate, of corruption charges leveled against him
in relation to his use of a discretionary fund while he served as mayor of Taipei.
Jubilant applause and ovation, as well as shouts of “Support Ma Ying-jeou,” sound
among supporters of Ma outside the Courthouse after the ruling was announced.
According to Republic of China laws, prosecutors have a right to appeal any case
to a higher court following a district court ruling, whether conviction or acquittal. It is expected that in this case, the prosecutors may do so.
