KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung said on December 12 that President Chen Shui-bian has been acting like a mad man recently in a desperate attempt to “ensure” the DPP’s victory in the elections. “Chen is not just trying to tie up the plebiscite with the elections. He is also seeking to use the plebiscite to ruin the elections. We are now entering the darkest period in the history of Taiwan’s democracy. The KMT will do whatever it takes to prevent Chen from pulling off his evil scheme to ruin the elections,” said Wu.

Regarding the Central Election Commission’s (CEC) proposal to postpone the elections “under special circumstances,” Wu said in KMT’s Central Standing Committee meeting that it was no more coincidence that the CEC’s proposal came shortly after Chen suggested that the election be delayed. “This is further evidence of the CEC being a campaign tool under the direct command of the DPP Chairman. This also shows that the real reason behind the DPP’s repeated blockage of the legislation aimed at providing a legal basis for the CEC is to assume full control over the CEC,” said Wu.

Wu stressed that the DPP would be likely to resort to desperate means now that the legislative and presidential races have become increasingly intense. “We must be prepared for the DPP’s dirty tactics ahead of time. We are now in the darkest period in the history of Taiwan’s democracy. The KMT will do whatever it takes to prevent Chen from pulling off his evil scheme to ruin the elections,” said Wu.

Wu said CHEN’s recent madness makes one suspect that he is not only trying to tie up the plebiscite with the elections but also seeking to use the plebiscite to ruin the elections. It seems that is prepared to sacrifice the lives and livelihood of the 23 million people on Taiwan for the DPP campaign. It is very likely that Chen will brush aside advice from the US (conveyed by US representatives recently) and carry on with his madness. “We are entering a crucial period. All members of the KMT must to ready to fight and waste no time in working hard for the electoral races to end the era of Green Terror and bring back the Blue Skies,” urged Wu.
