KMT Warns of DPP’s Dirty Election Tricks

December 19, 2007

KMT Spokesperson Chen Shu-rong yesterday presented a list of "dirty" election tactics the DPP could resort to in order to win the upcoming elections—including staging destabilizing incidents—and called on voters not to be manipulated. The 143 tactics included in the list are classified into the following 15 types:

1.Disputes and Clashes: Using pro-Taiwan independence rhetoric to exacerbate cross-Strait tensions or making up stories of KMT Presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou “teaming up with Communist China to fight against Taiwan”

2.Mudslinging: Planting dangerous objects in DPP Presidential candidate Frank Hsieh’s campaign truck or headquarters and blaming it on the Red Shirt Army or Mainlanders to create social turmoil

3.“UN for Taiwan” Issue: Heating up the subject to direct attention away from Chen administration’s incompetence and corruption , as well as the economic slowdown, in recent years

4.Communal Issues: Seeking to manipulate voters along communal lines by playing up the fact that Ma was born in Hong Kong and using the 228 Incident to spark communal discord

5.Attacks and Assassinations: Arranging for Ma or Hsieh to be victims in shooting incidents to create chaos to suspend or postpone the election, and blaming everything on the CCP

6.Empty Promises: Releasing policy packages, most of which empty promises, to please voters

7.Bets and Odds: Predicting Hsieh will win the election in order to influence people placing illegal bets on the outcome to put their money on Hsieh. These people would then vote for Hsieh to win money

8.Barrage of Never-ending Phone Calls: Paralyzing the opposition’s campaign apparatus by bombarding it with phone calls

9.DVDs: Creating DVDs detailing trumped up accusations against Ma to be given away for free

10.Underground Radio Stations: Broadcasting falsified stories to brainwash voters

11.Verbal Threats: Telling voters that none of the proposed policies would materialize should the DPP lose ruling status to the KMT

12.Intimidation against Taiwanese Businessmen: Blocking Taiwanese businessmen from re-entering the country to cast their votes through judicial means or by branding them as potential carriers of bird flu virus

13.Falsified Oracles: Telling voters that the DPP Hsieh-Su Presidential ticket commands the support of the gods

14.Missing, Car Accidents, and Poisoning: Taking a leaf out of Chen Shui-bian’s book and doing whatever it takes to win the election

15.Falsified Bribery Accusations: Making falsified vote buying accusations against the Ma camp or KMT staff.

Chen Shu-rong urged voters not to fall for any tricks the DPP pulls and to use their ballots to throw the scheme-happy DPP out of the Presidential Office.
