KMT Commemorates Late President Chiang Ching-kuo

The late President Chiang Ching-kuo spent 40 years of his 79-year life in Taiwan. Chiang dedicated over half of his life to taking care of the land and people on Taiwan. January 13 marks the 20th anniversary of Chiang’s death. In commemoration of the late President, the KMT launched a series entitled “Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo’s Journey in Taiwan” on January 5 to look back on Chiang’s contributions to Taiwan’s security and economic development, as well as reviewing Chiang’s qualities of diligence in managing state affairs, kindness in treating the people, integrity, and frugality.
Meanwhile, the oral history conference on “Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo’s Journey in Taiwan” was held at the National Policy Foundation on January 8, at 9:30 a.m.. This conference was chaired by KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung, and many old acquaintances and followers of Chiang Ching-kuo separately reminisced about his life and work during the conference.
A special exhibition featuring memorabilia related to the late President was unveiled on the sixth floor of the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation building on January 9, at 10 a.m., KMT Presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou attended the opening ceremony as guest of honor. The exhibition features five major themes including “Arriving in Taiwan,” “Safeguarding Taiwan,” “Building Taiwan,” “Visiting All Parts of Taiwan,” and “Chiang Ching-kuo the Taiwanese.” Over 250 items and photographs related to Chiang are being showcased in the grand event, including office desks and chairs, stationery, clothes and hats, cameras, walking sticks, razors, suitcases, as well as traditional Chinese paintings, letters, and calligraphy by the late President himself. Items related to the mysterious Black Cat Squadron (a squadron of the Republic of China Air Force that flew 102 U-2 surveillance flights over Mainland China between 1962 and 1974) commanded by Chiang are also being showcased in the exhibition in a brand-new display. The exhibition presents visitors with a chance to follow the late President’s footsteps and look back on the historical background of Taiwan’s economic miracle under Chiang’s leadership.
