Chiang Fang Chih-yi Resigns as Member of the KMT Central Standing Committee

Writing in his blog, Demos Chiang, a great-grandson of the late President Chiang Kai-shek, criticized Lien Chan, the Honorable Chairman of the KMT, for “refusing to concede the election” and“being a poor loser”in the days following the Presidential election in 2004. Demos Chiang’s comments have offended Lien Chan and other senior party members. Chiang Fang Chih-yi, Demos Chiang’s mother and member of the KMT Central Standing Committee, extended an apology to Lien Chan in person on Tuesday.
However, this matter did not end with Chiang Fang Chih-yi’s apology to Lien Chan. During a regular Central Standing Committee meeting yesterday, Chiang Fang Chih-yi resigned in front of the KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung, all her positions held within the KMT, including her membership on the Central Standing Committee. She left the Committee immediately, astonishing the people at the meeting.
Chairman Wu said before the meeting ended that, “We all have grievances and complaints, why wouldn’t Lien Chan?” He added, “I hope that we can all bear with each other and keep stumping for Ma-Siew as our first priority.” Wu also sent Legislator Hung Hsiu-chu to try to talk Chiang Fang Chih-yi out of quitting.
