KMT Statement on Siew’s Attendance in Boao Forum

KMT Central Standing Committee

April 9, 2008

Over the past eight years, the DPP government has put political maneuvering ahead of the economy and bread-and-butter issues. Exhausting the country’s strength with closed-door policies, the DPP government has caused a continued surge in the people’s misery index. Hence the people gave the KMT a majority mandate in the legislative elections and the Presidential election and handed the KMT the great responsibility of reviving Taiwan’s economy.

Vice President-elect Vincent Siew will leave for Hainan, Mainland China on April 11 to attend the Boao Forum in his capacity as President of Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation. Siew is expected to meet with high-level officials, representatives of industries, and academic elites for discussion and dialogue on economic affairs in Asia as well as regional and international economic issues in the hope of moving toward the common objectives of regional peace and prosperity. The trip will pave the way for Taiwan to reach out and connect with the rest of the world, and will make positive, substantive contributions to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

The KMT has always stood by the policy principles of “all for Taiwan and all for the people.” We believe that Vice President-elect Siew will fulfill his mission entrusted by the people and secure maximum benefits for Taiwan. We would like to call on the people on Taiwan to unite and support the cause of Vice President-elect Siew striving for national interests and the wellbeing of the people.
