First Lady Chow Mei-ching Will Be Honorary President of the Red Cross Society

The Red Cross Society of the Republic of China held a council meeting yesterday during which Dr. C. V. Chen, President of the Society, nominated First Lady Chow Mei-Ching to be the Honorary President and the council unanimously approved the nomination. In the past, the position of Honorary President of the Red Cross Society was held by the President of Republic of China.
Dr. Chen said that Ms. Chow was known for her positive image and her involvement in community services. Dr. Chen expresses his confidence that as Honorary President of the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China, Ms. Chow would help the organization realize its motto that ‘where there is distress, there is the Red Cross Society, and where the Red Cross Society is, there is hope.’ Moreover, Chen stated that he believed the relationship between the Red Cross and the First Lady would be very close.
Ms. Chow issued a personal statement after she was elected Honorary President of the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China. She stated that she was mindful of the great expectations that such a position entails, but as she identified with the ideals of the Red Cross Society and admired its achievements, she hoped to be a meaningful addition to the Society and help people in distress.
