KMT Central Standing Committee Gives Ma a Free Hand in Choosing His Running Mate
June 21, 2007
The KMT Central Standing Committee adopted a resolution yesterday (June 20) to give KMT Presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou a free hand in choosing his running mate. The resolution says Ma’s choice for running mate does not need to be ratified by the Central Standing Committee and only needs to be confirmed by the 17th KMT National Congress scheduled to be held on June 24.
“It is to give Ma sufficient time to look for his running mate”, KMT Secretary-General Wu Den-yi said.
According to the KMT Party Charter, after a Presidential candidate has decided his/her running mate, it will have to be first referred to the Central Standing Committee for endorsement and then to KMT National Congress for confirmation.
