Press Release
The Culture and Communication Committee
May 31, 2007
Chairman Wu said in a press report today claiming that he talked to Speaker Wang Jin-pyng about how to share power between President and Vice President if the KMT wins the 2008 Presidential election was baseless and untrue. After his meeting with Wang, he did not have any contact with the media, and he did not know where the rumor came from, he said!
Chairman Wu said that, during the meeting, he talked to Wang Jin-pyng about the incompetent governance of the DPP administration, whose series of scandals have led to demoralization in politics. Wu talked about how under President Chen Shui-bian, everything has gone downhill. The per capita GDP has shrunk, and living conditions have deteriorated. Wu also talked about how, in addition, the isolationist policy adopted by President Chen Shui-bian has caused Taiwan to be marginalized while the rest of the world globalizes.
Wu Poh-hsiung told Wang Jin-pyng that people have been worrying about the current situation in Taiwan and yearning for a good government. The 2008 presidential election are the last chance, so to speak, for Taiwanese people and the KMT to change Taiwan’s fate. The chance of winning the election would be greater if only the KMT were united. Therefore, Wu hoped that Ma Ying-jeou and Wang Jing-pyng could cooperate earnestly to regain power to strive together for Taiwan’s future.
Wu stressed that this was all he said to Wang Jin-pyng, and that media reports about how they would share power were totally untrue.
