Press Release

March 18, 2009

It has nearly been five years since the 3/19 Shooting Incident occurred. The KMT Central Standing Committee today adopted a resolution calling on the KMT administration to dispatch more manpower to reopen the investigation of the 3/19 Shooting Incident.

The full text of the resolution is as follows:
Tomorrow will be the 5th anniversary of the 3/19 Shooting Incident. Even now, the truth is unclear, many suspicions need clarifying and mysterious points require answers. Ever since the 3/19 shooting Incident occurred, the KMT has proclaimed the slogan “No truth, no President.” Now that the KMT has returned to power, we hereby formerly declare that the KMT supports reopening the investigation of the 3/19 Shooting Incident.

After the occurrence of the 3/19 Shooting Incident, the KMT insisted that the Incident required a complete investigation, and the Legislative Yuan also passed a law to establish the 3/19 Shooting Incident Special Investigation Commission to investigate the Incident. However, the DPP administration used every means possible to block the 3/19 Shooting Incident Special Investigation Commission’s work. The DPP even launched an absurd, so-called “executive resistance” and rejected all requests for administrative assistance made by the 3/19 Shooting Incident Special Investigation Commission. Some DPP officials and legislators even went to the 3/19 Shooting Incident Special Investigation Commission, demanding its shutdown. The DPP never showed any sincerity in trying to uncover the truth. Chen Shui-bian claimed that he had been a victim of the 3/19 Shooting Incident. However, unbelievably he did his utmost to impede the investigation.

According to the latest poll conducted by the China Times Electronic News, 88% of the respondents support reopening the investigation of the 3/19 Shooting Incident. On the one hand, the KMT heeds mainstream public opinion; on the other hand, the KMT intends to work hard to find the truth in order to promote reconciliation within our society through the investigation of the 3/19 Shooting Incident. Therefore, the KMT supports reopening the investigation of the 3/19 Shooting Incident, and calls on the Ma administration to dispatch more manpower to actively investigate the Incident for the sake of bringing justice to the people and bringing a closure to the matter. Only by doing so can the KMT demonstrate historic responsibility and strengthen Taiwan’s democracy.
