KMT Chairman Wu: Communal Conflict Should End
Source: KMT News
March 26, 2009
KMT chairman Wu Poh-hsiung yesterday issued a statement to the effect that communal conflicts should end. Wu said, “Taiwan is suffering a financial crisis and economic recession, and R.O.C. citizens should unite under the adverse circumstances. They should not waste energy on communal disputes or issues of provincial origins.”
Wu said yesterday that the KMT always sought communal harmony, and that the structure of KMT membership closely mirrored that of Taiwan’s main groups. In the past, the KMT chairmen had been mainlanders, Southern Fujian, and Hakkas, and it would be possible to have an aborigine or new immigrant chairperson in the future.
Wu said that the 23 million R.O.C. citizens were one family, one community. We should respect each other, he added. Moreover, Wu continued, if any person or politician wanted to provoke or inflame the communal issue, it would be immoral; the person should be severely condemned.
