Wu Jia-hui, chief secretary of the National Communications Commission (NCC), allegedly took bribes from business firms under his supervision while he served as deputy director of Directorate General of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. He had allegedly received a total of NT$ 20 million in bribes. Prosecutors yesterday subpoenaed Wu, his daughters, and businessmen for further questioning. Wu was later released on bail of NT$ 500,000 on allegedly violating the Statute on Punishment of Corruption. However, Wu Jia-hui insisted that he had neither profited businessmen nor received bribes.
Wu Jia-hui had been the deputy director of Directorate General of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications between 2000 and 2006 during former President Chen Shui-bian’s administration. Investigators and prosecutors suspected that he had abused his authority to receive bribes.
The NCC yesterday stressed that the involvement of Wu in the corruption case had no connection to the purview or operations of the NCC.
