KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung received a delegation of the Philippines charter of the KMT party on September 11, accepting a donation of NT$ 22 million from the Overseas Chinese Communities in the Philippines for the victims of the 8/8 Flood in Taiwan.
Chairman Wu said that the KMT party central would ensure that the donation was used to efficiently to benefit the flood victims. NT$ 20 million of the donation would be used to purchase consumer electronics for the victims living in the 1,000 permanent pre-fabricated housing units in order that every victim shared in the charity from the Overseas Chinese Communities in the Philippines.
On September 10, while being sworn in, Premier Wu Den-yih also thanked the Overseas Chinese Communities in the Philippines for their generous donation.
Chairman Wu added that the remaining NT$ 2 million would be donated to the KMT Foundation of Physical and Mentally Disabled, which would use the donation to assist adoption organizations and other victims in the Typhoon-devastated areas. The above-mentioned plans for the use of their donation won unanimous support from the delegation of the Philippines charter of the KMT party.
Ko Sun-he, one of the delegates of the Philippines charter of the KMT party, said that the Philippines charter had raised more than 34 million Pesos, and the Philippines charter decided to donate NT$ 1 million to the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China, and NT$ 22 million to the KMT party central.
Ko indicated that the donation for the 8/8 Flood victims had been raised from all walks of life within the Philippines Overseas Chinese Communities, including both right-wing and left-wing advocates, as well as both pan-Blue and pan-Green camp supporters, setting a new precedent in the Philippines.
