Chinese Taipei won three gold medals, two silver, and one bronze in the tennis events at the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong.
Chang Kai-cheng triumphed in the women's singles title after coming from behind to beat Mainland China's Zhang Shuai. Moreover, Chuang Chia-jung and Hsieh Su-wei won the gold in the women’s doubles after defeating South Korea’s Kim Song Jung and Lee Jun A.
In addition, Taiwan swept the board in the mixed doubles final, which saw Chuang Chia-jung and Yi Chu-huan edge out teammates Hsieh Su-wei and Lee Hsin-han to win the gold, leaving the silver for Hsieh and Lee.
Yi Chu-huan and Lee Hsin-han won the silver medal in the men’s doubles.
Chen Nan, head coach of Chinese Taipei's tennis team for international competitions, said the games were mainly seen as a warm up for the 2010 Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou City, Mainland China.
