The Kuomintang (KMT) is split in the legislative by-election in Taoyuan County 3rd Electoral District (Jhongli Township) slated for February 27. In a survey conducted by the United Daily News on the race, former legislator Chen Hsueh-sheng, who is running in the election on the KMT ticket, received a support rating of 29 percent, 8 percent ahead of his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rival Huang Ren-jhu (21 percent), while the other two independent candidates, namely, Taoyuan County Councilman Wu Yu-tung and Jhongli Deputy Mayor Lin Hsiang-mei, each received a support rating of 6 percent. 37% of the electorate remains undecided.
Both Wu Yu-tung and Lin Hsiang-mei were recently expelled from the KMT for running in the legislative by-election without party nomination.
