March 5, 2010

During a meeting with Kuomintang (KMT) Secretary-General King Pu-tsung yesterday, incumbent Taichung City Mayor Jason C. Hu expressed his strong willingness to seek reelection on the KMT ticket in the year-end special municipality election. According to a survey conducted by the United Daily News on the municipality mayoral election in the expanded Taichung City (Taichung City and County), Jason Hu received an overwhelming support rating in the face of a challenge from any of the four probable candidates representing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), namely, DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen, former Premier Frank Hsieh, former Cabinet spokesman Lin Chia-lung, and Kuo Chun-ming, former legislator and currently director of the DPP Taichung County chapter. Even against Tsai Ing-wen, his strongest challenger, Hu received a support rating of 55 percent, 32 percent ahead of Tsai (23 percent).
