According to a survey conducted by the United Daily News on the municipality mayoral election in the expanded Taichung City (Taichung City and County) following a series of serious crimes and local police discipline cases, incumbent Taichung City Mayor Jason C. Hu, who is also the Kuomintang (KMT) candidate for reelection, received a support rating of 46 percent, the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Su Jia-chyuan, concurrently the party’s Secretary-General, received a support rating of 24 percent, while 30 percent of the electorate remains undecided. However, 51 percent of the electorate responded that they believed that Mayor Hu should take responsibility for the deteriorating social order and police discipline in Taichung City.

Note: The public opinion poll was conducted on June 3 with 813 people over 20 years of age whose domiciles are in Taichung City or Taichung County successfully surveyed while 300 people declined to be surveyed. The margin of error associated with this sample is plus or minus 3.4 % with a 95% confidence interval.
