The United Daily News (UND) released a survey today on the voting preferences in the up-coming elections in Taichung Special Municipality (a merger of Taichung City and County) and Tainan Special Municipality (a merger of Tainan City and County). The survey showed no significant changes in the Taichung Special Municipality Mayoral election as incumbent Taichung City Mayor Jason C. Hu, the Kuomintang (KMT) candidate for reelection, received a support rating of 43 percent, the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Su Jia-chyuan received a support rating of 25 percent, while 29 percent of the electorate remained undecided. Compared with a previous UND poll on the mayoral election for greater Taichung released in early June, Hu’s support rating had dropped three percentage points while Su’s support rating and the percentage of undecided voters remained almost unchanged.
As for the Tainan Special Municipality Mayoral election, DPP candidate William Lai Ching-te, currently a DPP legislator (Tainan City Electoral District 2), led the race with a 44 percent support rating, down from 57 percent in early May, while his KMT opponent Kuo Tien-tsai raised his support rating from 15 percent to 20 percent. The gap in their support ratings had narrowed from 42 percentage points to 24 points.
