Colonel Lo Chi-cheng Sentenced to Life in Prison for Spying
Sources: All Taipei Newspapers
April 29, 2011
Colonel Lo Chi-cheng, who used to work at the Ministry of National Defense’s Military Intelligence Bureau, had been recruited by Mainland China as a double agent in 2007. Lo was arrested last November, and the Military High Court yesterday sentenced him to life imprisonment and deprived him of political rights for life. However, Lo may appeal the sentence to a higher court.
The collegiate bench of judges concluded that Lo had spied for Mainland China while he served in the Military Intelligence Bureau and had committed the crime of “spying for the enemy” stipulated in the Criminal Code of the Armed Forces; therefore, the court sentenced him to life in prison in accordance with the law.
