The Taiwan Brain Trust, a pro-Green think tank founded by Kwang-ming Koo, released the results of an opinion poll conducted immediately prior to the third anniversary of President Ma’s taking office.  The opinion poll asked respondents to rate the Ma administration in six categories, i.e., governance capability, economic performance, cross-Strait relations, foreign policy and Taiwan sovereignty, democracy and rule of law, and protection of human rights.

With President Ma having been in office for nearly three years, the latest opinion poll conducted by the Taiwan Brain Trust showed that 40 % of the respondents were satisfied with the performance of the Ma administration, while 48% were dissatisfied.

It was noteworthy that although the DPP accused the Ma administration of sacrificing Taiwan’s sovereignty for closer cross-Strait exchanges, 47.3% of the respondents concluded that cross-Strait exchanges did not affect Taiwan’s sovereignty, while only 40% of the respondents concluded that Taiwan was sacrificing its sovereignty.  22.3% of the respondents concluded that Taiwan’s international status had improved, 46.1% said there was no change, and 26% responded that we had lost ground.

This opinion poll was conducted from May 6 to 7, with 1,078 people surveyed. The margin of error associated with this sample is plus or minus 2.98 % with a 95 % confidence interval.
