President Ma Ying-jeou has been in office for nearly three years. An opinion poll conducted by Shih Hsin University released on May 14, commissioned by Taiwan Public Opinion Studies Association, shows that President Ma led DPP chairperson Tsai Ing-wen with a support rating of 44.2% to 38.3%

The poll also showed that most female voters preferred President Ma to DPP chairperson Tsai Ing-wen, but Tsai garnered more support from young voters than President Ma.

With respect to President Ma Ying-jeou’s support rating and satisfaction with the performance of the cabinet, less than half of the respondents replied that they were satisfied with the performance of President Ma and Premier Wu; Premier Wu garnered an approval rating of 44% and President Ma 42%

Regarding the competition between pan-Blue and pan-Green camps in the 2012 Presidential election, 47% of the female respondents supported President Ma and 33% Tsai, while 41% of the male respondents supported President Ma and 42% Tsai.

The opinion poll was conducted from May 6 to 7 with 1,068 people successfully surveyed.  The margin of error associated with this sample is plus or minus 3.0 % with a 95 % confidence interval.

Taiwan Public Opinion Studies Association was founded in 2008, and headed by Steve Liang, Associate Professor of Public Relations and Advertising at Shih Hsin University.
