According to the latest survey on the 2012 Presidential election conducted by the Journalist, 41.6% of the respondents support President Ma Ying-jeou, 36.3% support DPP Presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen, and 22.1% are undecided. Compared to the survey conducted by the Journalist on June 30, President Ma Ying-jeou’s support rating has remained the same, but Tsai Ing-wen’s has dropped by 2.5%, and the difference in support ratings between President Ma and Tsai Ing-wen has widened from 3.6% to 5.3%.
The latest survey shows that 40.9% of the respondents below the age of 40 support President Ma Ying-jeou, 39.2% support Tsai Ing-wen, and 19.8% declined to answer.
Furthermore, 51.8% of the respondents aged 25-29 support Tsai Ing-wen, 35.5% support President Ma, and 12.7% declined to answer. 41.4% of the respondents aged 35-39 support Tsai Ing-wen, 36% support President Ma, and 22.5% declined to answer.
48.9% of the respondents under the age of 24, who are mostly first-time voters in a Presidential election, support President Ma, 31.8% support Tsai Ing-wen, and 19.3% declined to answer. 44.2% of the respondents aged 30-34 support President Ma, 30.8% support Tsai Ing-wen, and 25% declined to answer.
The survey also reveals that 52.6% of the respondents under the age of 40 are optimistic about Taiwan’s future, 37.2% are pessimistic, and 10.2% had no opinion.
The latest poll was conducted by the Index Survey on July 17, with 1,126 people surveyed. The margin of error associated with this sample is plus or minus 3 % with a 95 % confidence interval.
