James Soong (宋楚瑜), Chairman of the People First Party, announced that he would run in the 2016 Presidential Election on August 6th. In a radio interview on August 7th, Soong stated that he would probably ask Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) to consider being his running mate. In response, Ko admitted that “many people were persuading me in this respect.” However, Ko said, “As I am the incumbent Taipei City Mayor, it’s impossible for me to be his running mate.”

Media outlets asked Ko if Tsai-Ing wen (蔡英文), the DPP’s Chairperson and Presidential candidate, and James Soong both should invite him to stump for them on stage, who he would choose. Ko replied that he would not make any public comments.
