Hsu Chih-hsiung (許志雄), who has been nominated for grand justice, had stated that “the Republic of China is not a ‘normal state’” during interpellations in a confirmation session at the LY Committee of the Whole on October 17.
In response, during general interpellations in the LY yesterday, KMT legislator Huang Chao-shun (黃昭順) questioned whether it was Tsai administration’s hidden agenda to implement the “two states theory” through backdoor listing. [Editor’s note: The “two states theory” refers to that Taiwan and the Mainland are in a state-to-state relationship.] Premier Lin Chuan (林全) stated yesterday that grand justices had their own opinions, so Hsu’s views were solely his own, not the government’s position.
Huang Chao-shun attacked Hsu’s improper remarks, asking Lin Chuan to recommend that Tsai withdraw Hsu’s nomination.
Presidential Office spokesman Alex Huang (黃重諺) stated yesterday that Hsu’s views were based on his judicial training and understanding of the values of liberty and democracy, so “people should not make over-political interpretations on the meaning of his views.”
