Terry Gou: Taiwan Cannot Depend on the US for National Defense

During his tour in the US, Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) stated that “national defense depends on the US.” When interviewed by the media yesterday, Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou (郭台銘) indicated that Taiwan could not depend on the US for national defense since the US fooled us by selling us outdated weapons, adding that Taiwan should not buy weapons from the US but should invest in the US in exchange for high technology.

Gou also stated that as the Mainland and the US, the world’s top two economies, competed with each other, we needed to know where Taiwan stood, in order to chart our course while structural adjustments of US-China trade were being made.

Gou went on to state that national defense and the economy could not count on others, and the economy and technology relied on innovations, adding that in the future, in an age of AI and 5G, the best technologies were possessed by the US, and that “only technological exchanges and our own innovations can create Taiwan’s future.” Gou also indicated that he did not support any individual presidential hopeful, adding that “I support the one who is the best for Taiwan.”
